Shake Shack Custard Conquest – August 2010

Snap(shot) Judgements are posts that will appear with no real regularity. It’s primarily a way for us to get thoughts and photos up as soon as possible, especially when we have no plan to write a feature-length column on the subject. Here, Gary shows off some photos from eating through the August 2010 selection of special flavors of frozen custard at Shake Shack.

I must be getting to the end of the Shake Shack custard repertoire because this month featured three custard flavors that I’d already had in the past five months. That still leaves me with four for August and with so few flavors to eat through, it was a lot easier to knock them all off on the first pass through the calendar. The opening of the new UES location and the addition of a C-line at the Midtown location also helped since I didn’t have to try to eat them in the warmth of the outdoor Madison Square Park location. Anyway, off to the photos!

Blueberry Coffee Cake

It’s a lot like last month’s Blueberry custard but with some coffee cake chunks thrown in. I ain’t complaining.

Cavaillon Melon

Don’t let the fancy name fool you – it’s cantaloupe. I’m not a big cantaloupe fan so this fell flat for me.

Basil

Hello basil! To say that the basil element in this custard is strong would be just about right. Overwhelming but oh so good.

Caramelized Peach

Plenty of sweet, caramelized flavor in this one. Some peach too but I was really tasting the caramelized part.
