Bouchon

In this solo dining adventure, Gary complements the previous night’s Thomas Keller experience with lunch at Bouchon in Yountville, CA.

Alright, part two of the Thomas Keller dining adventure! This time, my college buddies and I went to Bouchon for lunch the day after dinner at Ad Hoc. Bouchon is the second restaurant Keller opened, the first being The French Laundry, which is just down the street from here, as well as being not too far away from Ad Hoc. Unlike his other two Napa Valley restaurants, Bouchon is a strictly à la carte affair, serving the sort of stuff you would expect to find at a very fine French bistro. [...]

Ad Hoc

In this solo dining adventure, Gary and friends have their first fully fledged Thomas Keller dining experience at Ad Hoc in Yountville, CA.

Thomas Keller is considered by most to be the best chef/restaurateur in the country today. Until this past summer, I couldn’t really judge the veracity of that sentiment considering my only exposure to his food were the baked treats at his Bouchon Bakery in the Time Warner Center. JP, at least, had actually dined at Bouchon Bakery a month or so before our trip and both he and his wife Dori were big fans of their meals at this simpler Keller restaurant. [...]

Totale

In this solo dining adventure, Gary finally checks out the $5 margherita pie promo at Totale.

This past summer, I heard something that left me in stunned disbelief. LeBron taking his “talents” to South Beach? No, something even more astounding – there was a place on St. Marks selling $5 margherita pies! Yes, you read that correctly. For not even the price of two New York-style slices at your average pizza joint, you can have an entire pie! [...]

Saigon Shack

In this solo dining adventure, Gary tries the pho at Saigon Shack, a new Vietnamese place in Greenwich Village.

While putting together an opening report post for Eater a few weeks back, I was trying to verify whether Saigon Shack had indeed opened already. I stumbled upon some reviews on their Yelp page which led me to strongly believe that they had opened so that was certainly an easy enough task for the day. Curiosity got the better of me and I started reading through the mostly positive reviews and saw that there was a Tenka coupon for over 50% off of a lunch special – pho, dumplings, and coffee for $6. That’s not too bad, right? [...]

Tabla

In this solo dining adventure, Gary visits Tabla one final time before it’s gone forever.

In the 11 months this site has been live, this has to be the toughest review I’ve ever had to write. Not because of the quality of the food but rather the fact that this restaurant won’t be around much longer. Tabla was one of the restaurants that had been on my to-do list pretty much since we started this site but not one I really felt I had to rush out to eat at. Chalk it up to a perceived invincibility I thought the place had. It is, after all, a Danny Meyer restaurant and his restaurants just don’t close up shop. Ever. It’s never happened. [...]
