Can I just say it’s about damned time we finally got an Asian-influenced Mexican food truck? Los Angeles has a kajillion Kogi trucks and we’re just now getting our own version in the form of Korilla? (By the way, if there’s another one out there that’s been around longer than these guys, I apologize!) The first time I tried their tacos, it was when they showed up at the Eater Awards, after I’d gobbled down plenty of food, not to mention putting away a few drinks – not the best way to really get a sense of what their food was like. Back in October, I attended Crocktoberfest after being tipped off to its existence by Yvo over at The Feisty Foodie. What is Crocktoberfest, you may wonder? Why, it’s an event put on by The National Pork Board to “rediscover the rewards of cooking low and slow.” So, basically, lots of pork being cooked up in crock pots – yeah, that’s something I’d be down for. At this event, five finalists in a contest to come up with the best original pork slow cooker recipe had their recipes prepared to be served to event attendees. [...]

Earlier this week, I saw that the NYC Cravings truck would be going into hibernation for the winter after this week. That was a bit weird because the only trucks that usually take the winter off are of the frozen treat variety – ice cream or slushies – but almost never food. Then I saw in Midtown Lunch that they were changing their name to Bian Ding: Taiwanese Lunch Box and, more importantly, moving into the new Food Gallery 32 in Koreatown in the coming weeks. [...]

Philly Happy Hour + Dinner at Michael’s New York

Here, Gary enjoys some fine Philadelphia-imported cocktails and sticks around for a nice dinner at Michael’s New York.

A few weeks ago, I was invited by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. to a happy hour they were hosting at Michael’s New York. For this event, they sent up some bartenders from the Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., cocktail bar in Philadelphia that serves classic cocktails as well as two they created there, which they were kind enough to serve at this happy hour. As the happy hour wound down, the folks at Michael’s invited me to stay at a dinner they were holding for other bloggers/media folks to showcase their fall menu. [...]

Here, Gary makes it to the third of five rookie vendors he missed while at the Vendy Awards – A-Pou’s Taste.

With all the carts and trucks running around, it was disappointing to see the only one really serving Asian dumplings was the Rickshaw Dumpling truck which, in my opinion, serves mediocre dumplings.
