During my first trip out to the Bay Area in April 2008, JP and I spent a long Sunday afternoon at Santa Rosa’s Russian River Brewing Company. Actually, we got there at 11am and didn’t leave until 6pm so maybe a long late morning and afternoon then. Shake Shack Custard Conquest – July 2010

Here, Gary shows off some photos from eating through the July 2010 selection of special flavors of frozen custard at Shake Shack.

This is the fifth month that I’ve been doing this and it’s by far the hottest month in which I’ve done this. So please forgive me for the cups of cream some of these pictures turned out looking like. Despite rapidly melting, there were some custards to be eaten and this month had some solid custards – some weren’t memorable but none were bad. It was our first full day in the enchanting beach town of Cefalu, our first time ever being on the island of Sicily, and it happened to be Friday night. After a day of traveling, getting settled, lunching, swimming, and shopping, my mom and I treated ourselves to a special dinner and a bottle of wine. Inn Bufalito

Here, Kate kicks off a series of posts from her trip to Italy with a meal at Inn Bufalito in Sorrento.

The chef and owner Franco is obviously passionate about what he does. He personally greets each table, earnestly explaining Inn Bufalito’s concept. Perhaps his six years in the states gave him inspiration for this restaurant, which is at the same time very traditional Italian, and very modern. He uses no cream or butter in his cooking, as the ancient Italians from the Amalfi Coast would not have, and uses all regional ingredients. Americans like this, and you get the sense that he knows this. [...]

Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day

Here, Gary takes in the first ever Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day… at least in New York it is.

Us New Yorkers have it pretty good – we’ve got world-class four-star restaurants as well as some great places to eat when we’re not feeling all fancy. What we do lack in, however, are some of the popular fast food chains that dot the American map. We didn’t get our first Chipotle until 2003; heck, we don’t even have a Sonic and still their commercials all over the damned television. Something else we don’t have is a Chick-fil-A – okay, NYUers, I know you all have one on your campus but it doesn’t count if it costs $30k a year to enter. [...]
