Le Relais de Venise l’Entrecôte

In my time dining in New York City, I’ve pretty much seen every different menu option a restaurant has to offer – a la carte, prix fixe, and tasting menu. But until I dined at Le Relais de Venise l’Entrecôte, a domestic branch of a French chain, I’d never seen what they have to offer. A food menu with one – yes, one- option. When you dine here, you will have the salad, the steak, and the fries because that’s all there is to eat here, dessert notwithstanding. […]

Bouchon Bakery

In this solo dining adventure, Gary returns to Bouchon Bakery, this time for a meal and not just dessert.

Back in November 2009, JP and I did an afternoon-long eating tour that started in Chinatown for lunch and ended at Bouchon Bakery for dessert. Since that visit, my first, I’d been back several times, every since one of them for one of their delicious cookies. On and on, this would go, for about a year before I finally actually came here with the intention of sitting down in their dining area and having a meal here. […]

Ad Hoc

In this solo dining adventure, Gary and friends have their first fully fledged Thomas Keller dining experience at Ad Hoc in Yountville, CA.

Thomas Keller is considered by most to be the best chef/restaurateur in the country today. Until this past summer, I couldn’t really judge the veracity of that sentiment considering my only exposure to his food were the baked treats at his Bouchon Bakery in the Time Warner Center. JP, at least, had actually dined at Bouchon Bakery a month or so before our trip and both he and his wife Dori were big fans of their meals at this simpler Keller restaurant. […]

Thistle Hill Tavern

In this solo dining adventure, Kate checks in with impressions from her many visits to Thistle Hill Tavern in Park Slope.

I am not a person with a huge amount of disposable income. I rarely buy new clothes, think twice before taking cabs, and I don’t even have cable. My one splurge however, is on my favorite pastime– dining out. Even this is usually only a once a week occurrence. Naturally then, when I pick a place, I want it to be great. I want it to count. I try not to waste dinners on repeat visits unless I love a place, or if a certain dish there keeps me coming back. […]

Tony’s Pizza Napoletana

In this solo dining adventure, Gary finds some really good pizza in San Francisco at North Beach’s Tony’s Pizza Napoletana.

I love pizza. In high school, pizza was my favorite food to eat and I would look forward to getting a slice after school most days. A slice of pizza was the perfect after-school snack – not too filling so I’d be unable to eat dinner later and not too expensive so I wouldn’t break my meager wallet. […]
